Several times a year, specific clinics are held in the province.

Testimony of Emma Kirton : « Hello, my name is Emma Kirton. I am 16-years-old and I live in St-Lazare, QC. I am coached by Claudia Iannuccilli of CI Eventing.

I am very fortunate to have received one of the $100 bursaries from ACCC-Q to attend a clinic. The clinic that I chose was with Jessica Pheonix at Sandridge Farm. We did two sessions, dressage and show jumping.

My horse’s name is When Stars Align (Si). He is a 5-year-old OTTB that I got from the track last July. He is very green and we want him to have a positive and fun first season at the pre-entry level.

In the dressage session of the clinic, we worked on leg yielding, developing his understanding of my aids. As he is very green, he is still learning how to use himself, to stay balanced and straight. Jessica pointed out that I have a tendency to look down, and this affects his balance. This is a bad habit for me, so I’m really trying to be conscious of it.

In the showjumping, I also needed to focus on looking up. We worked on building Si’s confidence, allowing him to jump at a speed that he feels comfortable with. His turning is improving and his canter is becoming much more adjustable.

We were so lucky to have Jessica’s expertise and knowledge for the weekend. I learned a lot and it has helped me feel more prepared for our first season together!
